Reclaiming Africa's Story: Hakimani Media & Communications Hub

The stories we hear shape the way we see the world. Too often Africa is portrayed only through headlines of war, poverty and crisis. Across Eastern Africa, communities are rebuilding after conflict, women are transforming livelihoods, young people are creating opportunities and faith communities are fostering reconciliation — yet these stories rarely receive the visibility they deserve.

Hakimani Eastern Africa, rooted in the Jesuit tradition of accompanying those on the margins and the Church's call to Synodality, seeks to establish a regional Media and Communications Hub in Nairobi serving Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, South Sudan and Sudan.

The Hub will

• Produce professional documentaries and multimedia stories of community transformation
• Launch a regional podcast platform amplifying African voices
• Run digital campaigns, publications and livestreams
• Train community members and partner organisations in ethical storytelling
• Maintain a secure digital archive of the region's stories

Rather than speaking on behalf of communities, the Hub will accompany them in telling their own stories — with honesty, dignity and hope.

"Communication is not only the transmission of information but also the creation of a culture of encounter." — Pope Francis
