Strengthening Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is a hands-on, Montessori-based approach to the religious formation of children, carried out in a prepared space called an Atrium. This project, led by the Jesuits Hakimani Centre with the CGS-USA team, will introduce and build CGS in 10 parishes in Kenya between November 2026 and December 2027.
Parishes need more than a one-off training. They need informed pastoral leadership, catechists ready to keep learning, a suitable Atrium space, materials and a realistic plan to keep going. The project links all of these.
The Project
• Secure the commitment of 10 parish leadership teams
• Introduce around 35 catechists to CGS through “seed planting” sessions
• Support selected catechists through intensive Level I formation with CGS-USA
• Follow up with reflection, Atrium space and resource assessment and parish plans
• Document results, challenges and lessons for future expansion
