Dr. Alli is a physician by training and was a senior manager at the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Geneva. Over the past 28 years he has acquired a solid and wide ranging expertise in occupational safety and health globally. He has managed, developed, and implemented national and international technical cooperation policies and programmes with governments, employers, workers, and their organizations. His professional experience includes clinical work with private medical facilities and the provision of strategic and management leadership to private, governmental, and non-governmental organizations. He was a lecturer/consultant at the Department of Community Medicine, University of Zimbabwe, Harare and recently a guest lecturer in Occupational, Environmental, Safety and Health Disorders course at the University of the West Indies, Mona, Jamaica.

Previously, Dr. Alli was a Senior Technical Specialist on Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) with the ILO Multi-disciplinary team (MDT) in Ethiopia and at ILO headquarters in Geneva.

Until his retirement in March, 2008, he was the Coordinator of technical cooperation with the ILO Programme on HIV/AIDS and the World of Work. He is the author of several publications and has presented several papers at international meetings on OSH and HIV/AIDS. Dr Alli has an extensive knowledge of tertiary education across the continent having worked in several African countries during his tenure at the ILO.
