Clean Water Project
In 2024 Gratia International supporters helped the Assumption Sisters of Nairobi (ASN) complete the borehole and water tower at their Thika Mangu farm in Kenya. The ASN, an African religious institute founded in 1953, serves the poor and marginalised across Kenya, Tanzania, Canada and Jamaica through health care, education, social work, agriculture and community development.
The borehole was drilled in 2021 but stalled for years for lack of funds. Through the efforts of Fr Joe Hill, support of USD 5,000 from the UCS Province of the Jesuits (2022) cleared the outstanding drilling costs, and USD 20,000 from Gratia International (2024) paid for the pump equipment, steel water tower, storage tanks and solar panels. The borehole is now fully operational.

The Impact
With a reliable water supply the sisters have installed drip irrigation and improved their coffee stock. Farm produce now benefits the surrounding community, local people have found employment in hard economic times, and farm revenue supports the work of the whole congregation.
